How UV Lights Keep Your Home Healthy

How UV Lights Keep Your Home HealthyIf you’re like most homeowners, you’ve probably been trying to figure out the best way to improve your home’s air quality. With a professional installation, UV lights offer a fantastic opportunity to clear out the majority of microorganisms that are floating around your home at any given time.

How UV Lights Work

For microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, other germs and mold spores, exposure to UV rays is devastating. Unlike humans who can put on sunglasses or sunblock, these harmful pollutants have no way of protecting themselves. The UV rays emitted by high-intensity UV lights will penetrate their molecular structure and break them down immediately.

Professional Installation

A technician will perform a professional installation of the lights and ensure their proper placement within your HVAC system. You have two choices:

  • The lights can be installed in your ductwork, allowing the lights to treat the air that is being pushed through the ducts repeatedly when the forced-air heating or cooling system is running.
  • They can be placed near your heat pump or A/C’s indoor coil and condensate pan to fight the growth of mold and mildew, which is caused by the accumulation of moisture on and around your equipment.

Benefits of UV Lights

There are a number of benefits to the use of UV lights in your home, including but not limited to:

  • Fewer respiratory issues – When organic pollutants get into your lungs, they can cause respiratory issues to develop.
  • Great for asthma sufferers – By lowering the amount of pollutants, asthma and allergy sufferers can breathe more easily.
  • Lower chance of being sick – By removing viruses, bacteria and other bio-aerosols, your risk of getting sick decreases.
  • HVAC system efficiency – If you use the lights to keep the equipment free of mold and bacteria, your system will run more efficiently, which will save you energy and money.
  • HVAC system longevity – The cleaner your equipment runs, the longer it will last.
